Specialist Staffing Group's parent company is delighted to launch the STEM prize at the inaugural Social Shifters Global Innovation Challenge. The competition is an exciting kick-starter programme for new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) enterprises that will solve the biggest challenges facing the world.
The competition brings together young people, aged 18-30, who have business ideas that provide solutions to pressing social and environmental problems. Contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the non-profit group, Social Shifters, is building a global community of social leaders.
Aspiring entrepreneurs will be given training and support to help make their idea a reality. Those taking part will also be in the running to win the STEM prize and up to $10,000 worth of funding from the Group to kick-start their social venture.
The Group stepped up as the STEM partner for the challenge to support young people in developing their skills and to show them the important role STEM industries play in solving the biggest challenges facing our planet.
To help the participants get ready to launch their own STEM enterprises, we'll be judging the prizes, virtually, and providing them with mentoring and skills to help them get going.
The finalists and their ideas are being showcased at the Social Enterprise World Forum in September, where the prize winners will be announced.
Gemma Branney, Head of ESG for Specialist Staffing Group's parent company, said:
“The Social Shifters Global Innovation Challenge is the perfect opportunity for the Group to use our expertise to help young people build their own STEM enterprises.
“From climate change to life-saving vaccines, we work every day to bring skilled people together to help develop solutions for some of the most complex problems facing the world. This challenge is helping to kick-start new STEM based social ventures, developing the STEM talent pipeline and showing people a STEM career is one with purpose."
